Jersey Shore News 5 Ways (Print, Radio, TV, Web, and Social Media)
Before you leave for a vacation, it’s prudent to catch up on important news regarding your destination. The weather, special events, traffic, road closures, and possible threats might impact how you and your family spend your time, or even whether or not you go at all. On a lighter note, staying up to date with current events gives you something to talk about while meeting locals and helps you to follow conversations.
This is especially true for the Jersey shore, where rain or dangerous waters might keep you away from the beach, or where a special event going on in town might pull you from the boardwalk to a park or restaurant. Here is a guide to the various media where you can get your Jersey shore news. Whether you’re old-fashioned or ahead of the times, you can find Jersey shore news wherever you prefer to look.
Asbury Park Press (owned by USA Today) is a print and online newspaper that focuses on local news, especially for Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Look for stories in categories like High School Sports, Jersey Mayhem, Business, and more!
Radio
SNJ Today has a radio program available both live and on demand that covers area schools, sports, obituaries, small businesses, and events.
Television
Although based in Philadelphia, Action News on Channel 6 attempts to cover the entire tri-state area, including the Jersey shore. Segments like FYI Philly often feature businesses and events going on down the shore. Their daily weather map always reports the weather in popular tourist towns. Channel 7 Eyewitness News and CBS New York, both based in NYC, cover New Jersey news as well.
News12 (owned by Cablevision) serves Connecticut, New Jersey, and some of New York. Watch for weather, traffic, sports, and so much more. My9NJ, owned by FOX, covers New Jersey news.
NJTVNews covers everything from politics to environment and health to science and technology, but it also reports on local topics. Unlike most other TV stations, NJTV is member-supported community television, relying on sponsors, members, and donations to remain free and independent.
SNJ Today also airs on TV. Check your local listings for channel and specific programming information.
Websites
NJ.com has a section called “Shore.” Within it, you can find live streams of Belmar Beach and Point Pleasant, blogs, forums, weather information, photos, and videos along with the latest news stories! The section is focused on Atlantic, Cape May, Monmouth and Ocean Counties, but if you’re staying somewhere else in the state, visit the website’s homepage to navigate to the correct region.
Shore News Today presents a conglomeration of news stories from local Jersey shore newspapers in a streamlined RSS feed. With special sections for photos, videos, sports, and weather, and an events calendar, this site is perfect for a general overview of what’s going on down the shore! You can refine your results by region or category. The site also has an email newsletter so you can get Jersey shore news sent right to your inbox!
Owned by USA Today, NorthJersey.com focuses on news in northern New Jersey, although it does have a section focused on the shore. Like Shore News Today, you can explore local news, sports, obituaries, photo galleries, blogs, arts and entertainment, events, and more. However, the site also publishes opinion pieces, features regular columnists, and conducts special reports.
6abc.com, the website for Channel 6 Action News, also posts articles about Jersey shore news and events, as do Channel 7 Eyewitness News, News12, My9NJ, and CBS New York. As noted before, Asbury Park Press has an online newspaper at app.com. The Press of Atlantic City reports on all types of news on their website, but they have a special section titled At The Shore with categories like Headliners, Nightlife, and Family Fun, focusing on vacation and recreation. NJTV’s website has categories like Garden State Express and Around NJ. SNJ Today also has a website, where you can stream full episodes and radio broadcasts, read news stories, or check the community events calendar.
Most of these stations also have email newsletters, so be sure to subscribe to your favorites!
Social Media
Patch.com covers a wide news area, but it has a Twitter account @NJShorePatch that focuses on Jersey shore news. Follow them to skim news headlines and follow up-to-the-minute details on the stories that interest you most.
All of the cable networks and print newspapers mentioned previously also have social media accounts.
