8 Jersey Shore Pictures You Won’t Believe Were Taken in NJ
Everyone knows the Jersey Shore has fun boardwalks and beautiful beaches. However, they often see the same kinds of pictures of the Atlantic Ocean as the sun sets. Here are eight pictures that may change the way you see the Jersey shore.

These late eighteenth century homes look like they belong in a small town in Europe. If you stood on one of their porches, however, you would be looking out at the Atlantic Ocean. Cape May‘s Historic District boasts dozens of beautiful houses like these, many of which are within walking distance of the boardwalk and beach and are available for vacation rental.
Hawaii? Aruba? Costa Rica? The Bahamas? Nope! This magnificent wave crashed on the Jersey shore! There are plenty of places in NJ to rent surfboards and catch waves like this one. Hang ten!

You might assume that someone took this picture while camping on a lake in the rural Northeast, but you’d be wrong. This is actually a screenshot from a video YouTube user NJShoreBeachLife took outside of her apartment in Monmouth Beach last year. The sky took on this gorgeous purple hue in December, proving that the Jersey shore can be just as spectacular in the off-season as long as you know where to look.

Maybe this brightly lit skyline reminds you of a major urban center like Miami, but this photo was actually taken in Atlantic City. With so many casinos and a world-renowned boardwalk, it’s no wonder that this city doesn’t seem to be preparing for sleep anytime soon. The nightlife is perfect for the younger crowd, although there is plenty to do at any hour for all ages. For example, that beach seems pretty empty at night…
This yacht looks like it belongs to some superstar spending the day in Malibu. However, it actually resides on the opposite coast at the Jersey shore. While the ownership situation of this yacht is unclear, tourists can rent similar ones and enjoy the peaceful waves and refreshing sea breeze. Of course, if you’re looking for a lower price range, there are plenty of smaller boats also available for rent.

Wow, what a crowd! These beachgoers flocked to Ocean City beach during Fourth of July weekend last year, braving the possibility of stormy weather (Maybe they should take their umbrellas down…). The Jersey shore is an immensely popular destination during holiday weekends, since it allows visitors to spend a day or two at the beach without breaking the bank with a flight to a faraway island.
The gazebo pictured looks like it would belong outside of a New England church or in a Northwest park. However, its home is New Jersey’s Spring Lake Park. This is one of many locations where both residents and visitors opt to tie the knot. Another popular venue is, of course, right on the beach, although a place like this might be better for colder months when winds by the ocean are far more frigid. Plus, imagine how pretty this would look in the show!

This building would fit in perfectly at a suburban Ivy League university like Yale, Harvard, or Princeton. While the picture was taken at a university (Monmouth), the school is located less than a mile from the coast of New Jersey. The regal Woodrow Wilson Hall (above) houses the university’s administration.
If you look hard enough, there are plenty of Jersey shore pictures that challenge common conceptions of it. Next time you’re in Jersey, take your eyes off the beach for a moment and look around at what else the shore has to offer.
