10 Beach Life Hacks
- Protecting your Valuables
When you are hitting the waves, the last thing you want to worry about is someone stealing your things. This could include things like car keys, money or even your cell phone. Fear not! There is a way to trick potential thieves. After you have finished a bottle of sunscreen, clean out the container and voila! You have your very own valuable holder.
- Sticky Sand
Nothing is worse than walking off the beach to get back into the car and trying to brush all the sand off that is stuck to your legs because of being damp. There is a super easy fix for this. Sprinkling baby powder on your legs will suck up all the moisture and make it easy to just brush the sand right off.
- Snacks
If you are beaching on a budget, bringing snacks is a great way to save a few dollars. There are a few snacks that are perfect for the beach. You can make your own trail mix with ingredients like peanuts, granola, and dried fruit. Another great beach snack is fresh fruits and vegetables. These need close to no preparation except for throwing some ice in a cooler.
- Staying Cool
Let’s face it: the beach is hot. If you are like me, you like staying nice and cool even on the hottest days. While you are already bringing your cooler for your snacks, there is something you can add to make sure that you, or your little ones, do not get too hot. Take two normal dish sponges, put them in a ziplock bag, add some water and seal. After freezing this and keeping it cool in the cooler all day, this homemade, non-sweating icepack will be great way to keep it cool.
- Broken Flip Flop
Oh no! Your favorite pair of flip flops have just broken right before your fun trip to the beach. One of the most common ways for flip flips to break is for the strap to pull through the bottom. A quick way to fix this is to take a bread seal tab, pull the strap back through the hole, and clip the bread seal onto the strap. While this isn’t a permanent solution, it should hold long enough for you to enjoy your mini vacation.
- Sandy Phone Syndrome
It seems that during beach trips, sand gets into everything including electronics. To protect your phone from damage, put it into a zip lock bag. You will still be able to use the touch screen and it will keep the sand out.
- Natural Highlights
One trick my mom has taught me from when she was a kid was how to bring out the natural high lights in your hair. This can be done by squeezing lemon juice into your hair before a day at the beach. The juice will act like the product “Sun in” and help bring out the high lights in your hair.
- Improvements to towels
There are a few ways to improve the classic towel. One way is to fold over an edge and sew straight up lines in order to make pockets. If you make pockets on the corners, this can help in weighing down your towel so it doesn’t blow away while you are having fun!
- Tan “Tattoos”
It is easy to create temporary tattoos with the help from the sun. By taking a sharpie or washable glue and drawing the design on yourself, it blocks out the sun. This will leave a not tanned spot in the shape of what you drew!
- Sunburn
Having sunburn is the worst experience in the world. To make this situation at least a little bit better it takes some preparation. Before leaving for the beach, put some aloe vera in ice cube trays to rub on the burn later. Another a good idea is to put the bottle of aloe in the fridge if you want a less cold solution for your sunburn.
