Labor Day Weekend: Ten Things to do in North Wildwood
The Wildwoods have long been a family-friendly summer destination, and North Wildwood is the favorite of many beach lovers who’ve been visiting for generations. It’s an enjoyable spot to settle in for the summer, and when Labor Day comes around it’s tough to pack up the stuff and head back to the old grind! But if you’re hanging out in North Wildwood for the final holiday weekend of the summer, there’s still plenty to do, including these activities.
1. Go Kayaking – North Wildwood is a terrific place for kayaking and these small boats are a wonderful way to explore the coastline. There’s even storage for your kayak at the 5th St. boat ramp. Or you can rent one from an outfitter in the area. Perfect for a variety of ages!
2. Block Party – The Wildwoods sponsor a fun-filled, energetic block party each Labor Day weekend (usually on Sunday), offering lots of free live entertainment, crafts for the kids, food, games, and more. Though it’s in Wildwood, not North Wildwood, it attracts plenty of “northerners”, too.
3. Concert Under the Stars – On the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, check out North Wildwood’s weekly nighttime free concerts at the Lou Booth Amphitheater. A variety of artists of different genres appear there and the music is great! Wildwood Crest also has a Saturday night concert series.
4. Labor Day Fireworks – In the Wildwoods, fireworks aren’t only for the 4th of July. You can also catch them on Labor Day weekend. Check The Wildwoods website for exact date and time.
5. Splish-Splash – There are 5 waterparks in the Wildwoods including one on Morey’s Surfside Pier in North Wildwood. Check it out because it might be your last chance to enjoy water-based fun until next summer rolls around!
6. Tour the Lighthouse – Get a last look at the surrounding area as you climb to the top of the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse. Include time to stroll around the pretty gardens, which include more than 200 varieties of plants.
7. Ride your Bike – There’s a great public bike path that runs from Rambler Road to Cresse Avenue along the beach in Wildwood Crest, continuing on to the Wildwoods Boardwalk to North Wildwood. It’s perfect for an early morning ride when the weather is still cool and the traffic is light. Take the whole family!
8. Dolphin Watching – End your summer with a look at some fabulous creatures that inhabit the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. There are several charters in the area that offer dolphin cruises, so make a reservation before it’s too late!
9. Walk the Boards from End to End – There’s so much to do on the 2-mile-long Wildwood Boardwalk. Bring your North Wildwood vacation to an end with a long stroll, stopping to check out the games, rides, and all that scrumptious boardwalk food!
10.Finally….Soak up your last few days of sun by spending a few hours (or more) on North Wildwood’s spacious and clean beaches. There’s plenty of room for the kids to play and lots of space for you to spread out with your blanket and enjoy the summer’s warmth. The water’s great, too!
